Mayan Spellings - Updated
24 March 2010 - 11:15 Filed in Notes
As some of you may have noticed, the mayan spellings on this site, particularly for tzolkin day signs and Haab months varies across the site.
This is because I'm a bit lazy. I could have probably given another excuse, but couldn't come up with anything convincing. I have borrowed and adapted the code used to generate todays date on the footer of the page and the date calculator. Different people use different spellings so we've ended up with a bit of a mismatch.
As I'm not a great programmer in any way shape or form and my html and java skills range to taking some code and changing bits systematically, I've left the inconsistencies. Also as there are so many sites out there created by people who have been working with the Mayan language for years, I'm unsure as to what the correct spellings are.
Even when you get a consistent spelling there are the apostrophes, so for example if we use today as an example:
So when I have time I'll have a look at the code and get things consistent. In the meantime, please accept my apologies and forgive the inconsistencies.

Update
I've been through all the code and pages and the dates are now consistent

- The mayan date calculator and the Mayadate app running on my Palm phone says 2 Caban, 15 Cumku;
- The code at the bottom of the page says 2 Kaban, 15 Kumku;
- The Maya Calendar Dashboard Widget running in my Mac dashboard says 2 Kaban 15 Kumk'u;
- The Chac calendar programme for Mac says 2 Kab'an 15 Kumk'u.
